Benefits of Beeswax Candles: The Natural Alternative

Beeswax candles have been popular for centuries, but they’ve recently become increasingly sought-after thanks to the advantages they offer over other types of wax candles. In this post, we will discuss these benefits in greater detail as well as explore how to make beeswax candles with just a few simple ingredients!

The Benefits of Beeswax Candles

No Toxic Chemicals

Since beeswax candles are organic, they don’t contain any artificial dyes and fragrances, as a result, they do not emit any hazardous particles when burned. And since there are currently no laws requiring candle manufacturers to list their ingredients, the only way to know for sure that you are obtaining a safe high-quality candle is to seek one made entirely of beeswax.

Beeswax candles are healthy and environmentally-friendly. They break down naturally and do not require any artificial processing. And because they are not oil-based like paraffin candles, they burn with minimal smoke. Not to mention that beeswax, unlike petroleum, is completely renewable since it is produced by bees.

Longer Burning Time

The burn point of beeswax is greater than that of other kinds of waxes. Consequently, the burn duration increases significantly. The lifetime of paraffin candles is shorter, so, although they may be cheaper initially, they are less affordable over time. Because of beeswax's high melting point, the light produced by beeswax candles is stronger and more appealing than that produced by other candles. It also does not drip as heavily as paraffin or soy candles, and sometimes not at all! This results in less cleaning and more visually appealing candles.

Air-Purifying and Mood-Boosting

Pure beeswax candles have the ability to neutralize pollutants. When they are burnt, they emit negative ions that bond with air contaminants (positive ions) and fall to the floor, removing them from the atmosphere and improving indoor air quality in the process. (1) These negative ions, however, provide more than physical health benefits. They are also thought to raise your levels of serotonin, commonly referred to as the happy chemical, after they reach the bloodstream. Increased levels of serotonin have been demonstrated to decrease stress, reduce depressive symptoms, and enhance energy, allowing you to start each day in a bright mood.

Natural Honey Fragrance

Beeswax absorbs the natural honey fragrance from the honeycomb, giving your home a naturally lovely scent. They are a simple approach to eliminate unpleasant odors in a room without using perfumes or other synthetic fragrances. Read on to discover how you can affordably make your own all-natural candles!

How to Make Beeswax Candles?

Materials Required

  • A pound of beeswax
  • 1/2 cup of melted coconut oil
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons of essential oil (optional)
  • Cotton wicks with connected tabs and wick stickers
  • Jars

  1. Place the wick in the middle of the jar.
  2. Combine beeswax and oil in a double boiler and heat until the wax is completely melted.
  3. Add your essential oil once the beeswax has been liquified.
  4. Fill the jars with the mixture and hold the wick in place until the beeswax hardens.
  5. Put the candles in a warm place to solidify them since the wax might break if it cools too rapidly.

Aside from creating an ambiance of beauty and comfort, beeswax is naturally free of toxins, VOCs, and other pollutants commonly found in other types of candles. Not only that, but they also burn much cleaner and longer. With all the amazing benefits that beeswax candles offer, it’s no wonder why people are quickly turning to them as the healthier alternative to their traditional counterparts. So if you're looking for a safe, natural way to create a soothing ambiance at home while preserving mother nature in the process, be sure to seek beeswax candles next time you’re hoping to brighten your home.
